Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) is a natural hybrid of spearmint and water mint (Mentha aquatica). Peppermint, which contains menthol, is named for its peppery flavor. Mint needs long sunny days and cool nights in order to flourish, and thrives in Washington state, which is now the leader in all mint production in the United States.
